LOVE AT A GREEN LIGHT
It happens fast--the flashing eye--the smile,
and what will never be, is close at hand,
love comes so near, but only for a while,
and leaves no time for one to understand.
You see the mouth that forms into the round;
as if a recognizing of desire;
your eyes they meet, in what love's to be found,
but bound to end as any other fire.
And then the lips are wetted going by,
for laying of the kiss that's not to be;
then parted is the love, that's on the fly,
and goes so fast, your heart can never see.
Love's all so overwhelming as it's done,
but leaves us empty, as if there is none.
